Skin needling is a non-invasive treatment involving the movement of a device gently puncturing sterile needles into the skin, creating micro injuries just beneath the surface. These micro injuries stimulate tissue regeneration through a process called collagen induction therapy, where the skin repairs itself naturally, creating smoother, brighter and healthier skin. What Happens during the Skin Needling Procedure?

The skin needling procedure involves using a small pen- like apparatus, which glides across your face in a gentle sweeping motion. The Micro-sized needles pierce the upper dermal layer using a spring-loaded system (to ensure a consistent depth when needling and consistent coverage throughout the treatment), kick-starting your body’s wound healing response stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This has the effect of filling out wrinkles. It also causes scars to reform in a way that blends in with the surrounding area; and the epidermis is improved in thickness and transparency. This procedure takes around 20-30 minutes. Repeated sessions can be scheduled 4-6 weeks apart to improve the overall skin texture and facial expression. For collagen and skin rejuvenation, four to six treatments may be recommended for scars and acne scar reduction, more than six treatments may be recommended.

Does the Skin Needling Procedure Hurt?

 There is minimal to no discomfort as a topical anaesthetic is applied to the skin, which numbs the skin to ensure we are able to maintain our patients comfort during the procedure. Patients describe this treatment as having next to no pain and only experience a gentle pressure as the skin needling pen gently sweeps across the skin. There may be a slight tingling sensation in sensitive areas such as the nose and around the eye area but this is very minimal and tolerable.

Are there any Side Effects from the Skin Needling Procedure?

Immediately after your skin needling treatment you will look as though you have modern sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. This will start to subside after one to two hours and will normally recover within the same day with only slight redness the following day. You will notice a fresher skin within six weeks. However, your skin will continue to improve over 6-12 months.

Is there any Downtime Associated with the Skin Needling Procedure?

None other than a slightly red face, any redness and inflammation will go down within 48 hours. You’re advised to go makeup-free for 24 hours post-treatment, and wearing SPF 50 and avoiding sun exposure is a must while your skin is healing. As your skin continues to heal post-treatment, you may feel slightly dry and your skin may look a little lacklustre, but this will also gradually return to normal after 3-5 days. 

Which areas of the body can be treated with Skin Needling?

This treatment can be used on the face and neck, décolletage as well as certain parts of the body like the stomach, thighs and hands.
